Safety
We are committed to help runners be and feel safe while running. We have resources to help runners minimize the chances of harasment or harm.

Safety in numbers
-
If possible run with a friend or group.
-
If you are running alone, let someone know your route and when you expect to return, and check in with your friends.
-
If you spend a lot of time in the woods, consider taking a Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder course.
Be Prepared
-
Get self defense training. Run828 is currently partnering with Underdog Martial Arts to offer free self defense training.
-
Bring your phone. Pepper spray and a whistle are also good ideas. If you carry pepper spray, practice using it. Run828 is currently offering free whistles and pepper sprays, contact us or come to a Monday night run to get one.
-
Be visible in the dark. Wear bright, reflective clothing and don't assume that a driver will see you or give you the right of way.
-
If you are running for an hour or more, carry water.
-
When running trails, don't rely solely on your phone for navigation.

Bears, beasts, Battlestar Galactica
-
Be alert. Pay attention to your surroundings and trust your intuition. If you don't feel safe, get away.
-
If you are charged by an unfriendly dog, don't run. Stand your ground, yell and don't let it get behind you.
-
If you encounter a bear, be loud, give it space, back away slowly, and don't turn your back on it.
-
If you choose to run with headphones, keep the volume such that you can hear your surroundings or use something that allows you to hear like shokz.
-
If you are abducted by alien beings, smile and squeeze your butt cheeks together.
